The Gabriola Island Land Steward Society (GILSS) has bought three homes in Meadow Wood Village, the affordable housing development on Church Street.

The homes were built in 1994 and have long been rented as affordable housing for seniors and others in need. As many people have experienced,  when a rental property is purchased, tenants can end up legally displaced. Happily, the tenants in these three homes, some of whom feared eviction, now have secure housing for the long term.

The purchase was made possible by a generous anonymous donor, for whom we thank from the bottom of our heart!

While we will focus our energy in the short term on making needed repairs to these homes, we’ll also keep looking for properties for affordable housing, sustainable farming, and community economic development.
